EDDIE PALMIERI

BLUE NOTE / MAY 20, 27

For six decades, the 87 year-old Nuyorican pianist/bandleader and NEA Jazz Master Eddie Palmieri, AKA "the Sun of Latin Music,” has been a musical giant in two worlds. He created the two-trombone frontline in the 1960s with his legendary La Perfecta ensembles, and in doing so, became one of the founding fathers of salsa. And his two-fisted approach to the piano translates the pointillistic and protean pianisms of McCoy Tyner and Thelonious Monk into his own profound Afro-Caribbean improvisations. His nearly 50 albums include Azucar pa’ ti Sugar for You, El Sonido Nuevo, Recorded Live at Sing Sing Vol. 1 and his latest recording, Mi Luz Mayor. Come see Eddie on his two-date spring residency, and you’ll hear a master of music at work. EH
