BEBEL GILBERTO

BROOKLYN OPERA HOUSE / MAY 16

Bebel Gilberto’s parents were both bossa nova music legends. She is living proof that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Her dad, Joao Gilberto and her mother, Miuchi, along with Antonio Carlos Jobim, helped give birth to Bossa Nova music. Both nature and nurture bestowed upon her musical gifts that she has made great use of. Growing up in New York and Rio de Janeiro, Bebel made her professional debut on her mother’s album when she was just seven years old. As she matured into a first-rate vocalist and singer in her own right, she has released a steady stream of albums and has become one of the top selling Brazilian artists in the U.S. Last year, she released an album, Joao, that pays homage to her father. She will perform songs from that album and others at the Brooklyn Opera House on May 16. JZ
